Riley Keough’s Parenting Style With Daughter Tupelo: ‘I Don’t Want My Kids to Feel Like My Happiness Is Their Responsibility’
Riley Keough is a proud mom of one, a daughter named Tupelo. Despite being in one of the most famous families in Hollywood, Keough ensures her daughter’s privacy by not showing her face, doing rare outings, and more. However, she did give super-rare details on her parenting style, including the way she wants her and Tupelo’s relationship to be like.
In a recent interview on the Call Her Daddy podcast, the Daisy Jones and the Six star discussed what she hopes that her children don’t feel like they have to take care of her.
“I don’t know if it’s just inevitable, but as a parent, I don’t ever want my kids to feel like they have to take care of me or unless they literally do,” she said. “But I mean like, emotionally, I don’t want my children to feel like my happiness is their responsibility.”
Keough is talking about something that a lot of parents have been working on in recent years, to ensure that their children don’t become like parents to them, and that they can remain a child. However, that isn’t to say their child won’t be like their parents. In fact, in the same interview, she talked about how people, including herself and her daughter, will make mistakes like their parents. She said, “And then your child is gonna end up talking to the therapist about you. So for me, I just try not to read into it.”
It’s clear that she has a distinct style of parenting, and it’s also clear how it’s the same and differs from her late mother, Lisa Marie Presley’s parenting style.
For those who don’t know, Keough started dating Smith-Petersen in 2014 after meeting on the set of Mad Max: Fury Road. Later that year, they got engaged and married in early 2015 in Napa, Calif.
Since then, they have welcomed a daughter named Tupelo Storm Smith-Petersen in Aug 2022.
In a rare interview with Vanity Fair, Keough explained her daughter’s name, “I was like, ‘This is great because it’s not really a well-known word or name in relation to my family — it’s not like Memphis or something.’ It’s funny because we picked her name before the Elvis movie.”
