Bears interim coach Thomas Brown could be headed to Patriots as offensive coordinator
Two candidates for the Bears' head-coaching job might be teaming up with the Patriots.
The Patriots hired Mike Vrabel as coach this week, and one of his first choices to interview for offensive coordinator was Bears interim coach Thomas Brown, NFL Network reported.
He also interviewed with the Bears for the full-time position and with the Seahawks for offensive coordinator.
Brown, 38, has long been seen as a rising star and has had head-coaching interviews before. He has been an offensive coordinator at the University of Miami (2016 through '18) and for the Panthers (2023) and Bears (2024).
After the Bears initially bypassed him for offensive coordinator last year, they brought him on as passing-game coordinator under Shane Waldron. Waldron got fired after nine games, and Brown took over the job.
Then coach Matt Eberflus was fired soon after, and Brown was asked to be interim head coach. He went 1-4, but broke the Bears' longest losing streak to the Packers in franchise history with a win at Lambeau Field in Week 18.
