Gray Eyes Cup Success
David Gray has warned his side against complacency this weekend as they take on Clydebank in the Scottish Cup.
The Bankies currently compete in the West of Scotland Football League - a division five-tiers below the Hibees – but have been in good form beating higher level opposition in the Scottish Cup so far to progress into the Fourth Round.
Gray’s side are also in good form, though, only losing one of their last 10 outings in the William Hill Premiership and have ambitions of progressing as far as possible in the competition.
When speaking to Hibs TV ahead of this one, our Head Coach explained what his message has been to the players.
“The challenge at the start of every season at this club is to challenge in the cups and to try and win something. It’s a genuine opportunity for this Football Club to win something.
“This is the first opportunity for us to progress in the competition. We need to guard against complacency, we’re playing against a team that’s full of confidence, they’re top of their league for a reason, and they’ve beaten higher level opposition to get to this point.
“We know the challenge is there, it’ll be a fantastic occasion for them, but we need to do everything properly, continue with the level of performance we’ve set of late, and keep this feel-good factor and momentum going.
“If we do that, then it should be a good afternoon for us, it’ll be job done but we know what we need to do to get to that point.”
Clydebank have had an excellent start to their league campaign, sitting top of the table, and the local area has been inspired by the cup draw with around 2,500 Bankies making the trip to Easter Road.
Gray told Hibs TV what kind of challenges he anticipates on Saturday.
“I expect a difficult game; it’s their cup final. They’ve done incredibly well to get to this point, and being top of their league will give them confidence because of their habit of winning games. We have that habit too, which is a good thing.
“All the pressure is on us to win, and we have to deal with that as players and as a Club.
“We need to make sure that – even though they’ve done fantastically well to get to this point - this is the end of the road in the competition for them, so we can progress in the cup. We need to play to our level and standards to do that.”
