I’m a dog behaviour expert & there’s 3 breeds to avoid if you don’t want the heartbreak of it going terribly wrong
A DOG behaviourist expert has revealed the three breeds to avoid if you don’t want the heartbreak of it going terribly wrong.
Will Atherton is a clinical canine behaviourist and works with dogs who often need extreme training after going wrong at home.
Will is a canine clinical expert and is advising on the best pet dogs[/caption]And there are three breeds he regularly sees in his clinic and is urging dog lovers to avoid getting them to prevent heartache in the future.
The first dog he warns against getting is the Japanese Akita.
Will, who goes by the name of ‘iamwillatherton’ on TikTok, revealed: “Now when I first got into this industry, they were way more popular than they are right now.
“But in the last year or so, it’s a breed that’s really started to come back through my system and my inbox is having more and more.
“And they’re just a breed that I just don’t recommend for the vast majority of people, let alone first-time owners.”
His second dog breed is a working line German Shepherds.
These are generally larger and more muscular dogs, then their counterparts and are known for having a more assertive temperament.
He says: “Now certain lines of German Shepherds may potentially be a good pick for first-time owners, but hardcore working lines rarely, if not ever, are.
“And last but not least, a breed I’m seeing all the time, and unfortunately it’s often around biting children, and that’s the Border Collie.”
He captioned the video he shared to his TikTok with a bit more information.
Will wrote: “If my inbox has the same breeds popping up over and over again I think it goes from a personal opinion to an informed hypothesis that most owners shouldn’t get those breeds if there’s better choices for them out there.
“Now I know there’s going to be owners of these breeds watching this that have amazing examples of the breed.
“I want to encourage you that rather than getting upset with me about my informed opinion that you should be proud of yourself for the clear skill and leadership you have, that many people didn’t.”
Many people rushed to the comments section to share their thoughts.

As a vet nurse I used to see these come in with first time owners and they had no control and would complain for ‘normal behaviour’ like nipping while running past.”
Talking about Border Collies, a second added: “They are great dogs for people with time that can work them as they need mental stimulation.
“As a lazy family pet they can be terrible and aggressive.”
