President-elect Trump, New York City Mayor Eric Adams to meet at Mar-a-Lago
NEW YORK (PIX11) – New York City Mayor Eric Adams is meeting President-elect Donald Trump on Friday at Mar-a-Lago, according to officials.
“Mayor Adams has made quite clear his willingness to work with President-elect Trump and his incoming administration on behalf of New Yorkers — and that partnership with the federal government is critical to New York City's success,” the mayor’s office said in a statement.
The meeting comes amid Adams’ federal indictment on corruption charges. Trump has voiced his support for the mayor, saying he would consider pardoning him.
“I think that he was treated pretty unfairly,” the president said on Dec. 16 at a press conference. “I would certainly look at it.”
No one else from the Adams administration is attending the meeting, sources told PIX11 News. The city is paying for the trip, according to sources.
Adams arrived in Florida on Thursday and is scheduled to meet with Trump at 1 p.m., sources said.
New York City Comptroller Brad Lander called on Adams to state that he would not seek a pardon from Trump.
“New Yorkers deserve to know that their Mayor is putting their interests ahead of his own—and whether our tax dollars, or Turkish Airlines, will be financing his trip to Florida,” Lander wrote on X.
State Sen. Zellnor Myrie also released a statement about the upcoming Adams-Trump meeting, saying, “Pardon me? The Trump agenda is not going to help move our city or the country forward. This pilgrimage is clearly about something else.”
Adams previously met with Trump’s incoming border czar, Tom Homan, and both have said they share the same desire to go after undocumented immigrants who have committed crimes in the city.
