UAlbany falls to 1-3 in league play with loss to Bryant
ALBANY, NY (NEWS10) -- The UAlbany men's basketball team took on Bryant University at the Broadview Center which resulted in the Great Danes falling by a final score of 89-79.
Head Coach Dwayne Killings "I thought the coaches [UAlbany] did a great job trying to set the tone at getting our guys to understand what that was like. I thought in the first half; we did some good things…we went into the end of the half, not where we wanted to be…in the second half, I didn't think we were competing at all…and they opened the game up, and they never let it go"
Key Stats:
- Kacper Klaczek led UAlbany getting a double-double with a career tying 21 points performance and 10 rebounds, shooting 9-15 from the field (60.0%), 3-6 (50.0%) from the three with three assists and one block.
- Justin Neely led the Purple and Gold with thirteen rebounds (1 off- 12 def) getting a double-double with 17 points.
- Byron Joshua has recorded a team-high two steals in the contest.
- The Great Danes shot 30-68 (44.1%) from the field, 8-21 (38.1%) beyond the arc, and 11-13 (84.6%) at the line.
How it Happened:
- The opening points of the game were scored by Neeley off a layup and Bryant answered with a three-pointer 42 seconds into the game.
- Amar'e Marshall put the Great Danes back in the lead by making both free throws to allow the Great Danes to go ahead a 4-3.
- Bryant responded by scoring two baskets to lead 10-6 with 17:46 left.
- Joshua buried a three-pointer with 15:15 left, leaving the Great Danes with a lead by one, 13-12.
- The Bulldogs delivered a layup causing another lead change, 16-15 at the 12:19 mark of the first.
- Joshua drove to the rim, got fouled on the play made the basket, and later went on to successfully convert the and 1 for a three-point play.
- After a rebound, Bryant charged down the court extending its lead scoring a three-pointer making the score 26-20 at the 8:20 mark.
- At 4:10, Bryant delivered a dunk making the score 32-28.
- Bryant finished the first half entering halftime with a 43-37 lead.
- Bryant started the second half by scoring a jumper shot in the first 20 seconds of the half to go ahead 45-37.
- Marshall then sunk two free throws to make the score 48-39 at the 19:17 mark.
- Kheni Briggs delivers a three-pointer for the Great Danes at the 14:50 mark making the score 54-45.
- Bryant responds with a 6-0 run to the 13:28 mark, to keep them in the lead, 60-45.
- Klaczek powered through a tight defense to score a layup from under the net, and immediately after scored another two-point hook shot to make the score 68-53 at 10:16.
- Marshall pushed a layup with 8:05 remaining making it 70-53.
- Around the 7:00 minute mark, DeMarr Langford Jr. made a hook shot, and Amir Lindsey followed with a layup making the score 72-60.
- After Bryant made two free throws, Great Danes Marshall responded with a two-point layup followed by Klaczek making a big three-point shot to bring the game back to within single digits, 76-67, in the final five minutes of the game.
- Klaczek scored a two-point layup and Joshua made a three-point shot making the score 80-72 with just a little over one minute left in the game.
- In the final 40 seconds of the contest, Bryant and UAlbany went back and forth, for the Great Danes both Joshua and Langford Jr. scored a layup, and Bryant made five free throws which led Bryant to take away the 89-70 win.
