Populist Bannon poised to 'lose' his hard-fought war — to powers from the right: expert
A media analyst told MSNBC on Thursday afternoon that right-wing populist Steve Bannon — who has dedicated his life to fighting the establishment — is poised to "lose" his long-fought war — but not from powers on the left.
Media Matters president Angelo Carusone told host Nicolle Wallace that the MAGA "populist movement" was never about populism, but rather about the right co-opting the populism of the right to achieve power.
"And it's not really a populist movement. It just has the veneer of that. And that's what it uses to sort of catapult itself into power. And then they don't end up following through on any of their real populist sort of ideals," he said.

Now that Trump is cozying up to billionaires, Bannon may be realizing he and the larger MAGA movement may have been fooled, he said.
"From his perspective, [Elon] Musk's interests are about Musk's power, that it's not actually a populist movement, that he is not sort of sincere in his efforts for free speech, as reflected in the fact that he's censored a whole bunch of conservatives that criticized him, took away their ability to monetize their platform, and also that Bannon is deeply concerned about America's posture vis a vis the [Chinese Communist Party], and is concerned about the entanglements that Musk has there," Carusone said.
Carusone said he disagrees with Bannon on just about everything, but added Bannon's correctly recognizing the entrenched monied interests and "burgeoning wannabe oligarchs or current oligarchs" are going to use Trump's attraction to cash to make deals and be transactional.
