'Bit swollen and purple': Arrested lawmaker bemoans 'beating' after being thrown to ground
Speaking from a hospital bed, Georgia State Sen. Colton Moore delivered an update on his arrest – and the shoving match that led to it – that occurred earlier in the day outside the Georgia House chamber.
“I did take a bit of a beating on my hand,” Moore, a far-right supporter of President-elect Donald Trump, said in a video posted hours after state troopers arrested him for defying an order that barred him from entering the House chamber.
“It’s a bit swollen and purple,” the lawmaker said in the video posted to his X account. “We’re waiting to get some x-rays to check it out.”
The scuffle unfolded after Moore repeatedly attempted to barrel past security officials to enter the chamber, where Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp was set to deliver his State of the State address. A video shows him being tossed to the ground as he tried to wedge himself through the chamber door.
“Today they took my freedom and liberty away as I was fighting for your liberty and freedom,” Moore said from the hospital Thursday. “But I’ll tell you what, I still have a constitutional obligation to do work and I’ll still be in that Legislature come tomorrow morning.”

He added that he appreciated “all of the warm comments from all over the country” and the state of Georgia, and also thanked hospital staff for providing him with “incredible service.”
But the bruhaha may just be getting started. Mallory Staples, the Georgia director of the State Freedom Caucus, said Moore can “absolutely sue” over the incident.
“This is what tyranny looks like,” Staples said Thursday during a Newsmax interview. “He can pretty much sue everyone. The people that laid their hands on him in any capacity. The state troopers, the speaker of the House. The list is long, and I wish I could say distinguished, of viable folks that he can sue and I think he will be.”
