'Home Alone' mansion in Winnetka sells for $5.5 million
The Winnetka house where "Home Alone" was filmed has sold for more than asking price at $5.5 million.
The brick-red Georgian home was listed for sale in May at $5.25 million and sold Thursday for slightly above asking price.
Built in 1921 and last sold for $1.59 million in 2012, the three-story, 9,126-square-foot mansion is nearly unrecognizable as the home Kevin McCallister protected from the Wet Bandits burglars in the 1990 film.
Renovated and expanded in 2018, the owners added a home theater and large indoor sports court “featuring a true 3-point line.” The five-bedroom, six-bathroom home also boasts an open gourmet kitchen, gym, recreation space and a wet bar.
“The sale provided a wonderful opportunity to own a piece of cinematic history," said real estate agent Lori Nieman, who represented the new owners. "As the proud stewards of this cherished home, the buyers, who wish to remain private, are excited to create their own memories while honoring its legacy and continuing its spirit of family and connection.”
