Reports: Former Longhorns receiver Johntay Cook II no longer with Washington Huskies
AUSTIN (KXAN) — Former Texas Longhorns wide receiver Johntay Cook II is looking for a new place to play college football.
Cook left the Longhorns program in the middle of the 2024 season, a move that head coach Steve Sarkisian said was "mutual." Cook then joined the Washington Huskies in the December transfer portal window, but now isn't part of the team according to multiple reports.
According to Andy Yamashita with The Seattle Times, Cook enrolled in time for the winter term starting Jan. 6, but is now off the team. Cook reportedly met Jan. 14 with Huskies head coach Jedd Fisch and the decision was made to part ways, according to Scott Eklund with Dawgman.com, 247Sports' site for Washington Huskies news. Cook had signed with the program in December.
Cook's future is unclear but he's back in the transfer portal according to 247Sports.
Cook played 20 games during two seasons for the Longhorns coming out of Texas high school powerhouse DeSoto. He caught 16 passes for 273 yards with two touchdowns with the Longhorns.
