APD: Man arrested in connection with 2nd homicide of the year
AUSTIN (KXAN) -- A 32-year-old man has been arrested in connection with Austin's second homicide of the year, according to the Austin Police Department.
That man was identified as Frank Henry Bonner Jr., according to a news release from the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force. Attorney information was not available for Bonner. This story will be updated if that changes.
An APD arrest warrant states Bonner was arrested on a first degree murder charge.
The warrant provided more details into the deadly shooting that happened on Jan. 2 in east Austin.
Officers responded to the 5700 block of Manor Road around 1:45 a.m. for a report of a woman with a gunshot wound to the neck, according to the warrant.
The woman was identified by police as Kelly Meazell, 35. She was pronounced dead on the scene at 2:11 a.m.
The next day, an autopsy was conducted by the Travis County Medical Examiner, which determined Meazell's death was a homicide, the warrant said.
Police spoke with a witness who met Meazell a few weeks before. The witness said she was last seen leaving on her bike the morning of the shooting sometime before 2 a.m., the warrant said.
Surveillance footage obtained by APD showed Meazell on her bike in the 5700 block of Manor Road, and then a man was also seen in the footage, which police said looked like Bonner.
According to the U.S. Marshals Task Force, Bonner was wanted by APD as a suspect for the shooting. After a warrant was obtained for Bonner by APD, the task force was requested to assist in his arrest.
On Thursday, Bonner was arrested at a bus stop near the intersection of Manor Road and Rogge Lane without incident, the release said.
No other details were available Thursday.
