NYC's free 3-K and Pre-K enrolling for upcoming school year: How to apply
NEW YORK (PIX11) – New York City’s free 3-K and Pre-K are enrolling for the upcoming school year.
According to the NYC Public Schools website, all NYC children born in 2022 can apply for 3-K for the 2025-2026 calendar year.
“In New York City, you can apply to 3-K in the calendar year that your child turns three,” reads the program requirements. “3-K brings free, full-day, high-quality education to three-year-old children in New York City. Every school district has 3-K programs, and we make every effort to place students based on seat availability close to their home.”
Fall 2025 Admissions Timeline
- Wednesday, January 15, 2025: 3-K Application Opens
- Friday, February 28, 2025: 3-K Application Closes
- Tuesday, May 20, 2025: 3-K Offer Release
Where to apply
Families can apply to any school across the five boroughs, but children will be given priority placement next to their home district. You can find schools closest to you here.

- By phone families with children can call 718-925-2009 and get help filling out an over-the-phone application.
- In person at a Family Welcome Center where enrollment counselors can assist with applying.
