Rare goose spotted in Washington County
GREENWICH, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- Bird enthusiasts from around the country have been coming to Washington County for the past week to catch a glimpse of a rare bird. The Taiga Bean Goose has been seen in several areas.
It has an orange bill, which distinguishes itself from Canadian geese, which have black bills. A local wildlife photographer said it traveled 3,500 miles from Europe, and it is the first time this type of bird has come to New York.
"That's why this goose is causing a buzz," photographer Brisbane Young said. "Because when it happens, it's so extremely rare, everybody gets excited. So, whenever a bird comes in the area from somewhere else, it's adrenaline for birders and photographers."
Bird experts said it's hard to tell how long it will stay in the area.
