Josh Keeley reacts to that goalkeeping injury crisis at Tottenham Hotspur
Josh Keeley speaks about his experience at Leyton Orient this season and reveals if he thought he would have to return to Tottenham on the back of the club’s injury crisis in goal.
Josh Keeley continues to go from strength to strength
Keeley did not have the easiest of starts to his loan spell at Orient, initially being left out of the team, but the Tottenham man managed to force himself into the starting eleven a few months ago and has not looked back since.
The 21-year-old has conceded just eight goals in 14 appearances in League One, keeping a clean sheet in ten of those.
The O’s have enjoyed a club-record run of seven straight clean sheets, with Keeley being in goal for all but one of those games, and the Spurs academy graduate was voted the division’s Player of the Month in December.

Guglielmo Vicario has been out of action for nearly two months and with Spurs also losing Fraser Forster for a couple of matches, some fans speculated if the club might consider recalling Keeley.
When asked if Tottenham did reach out to him about returning to Hotspur Way, the Irishman told talkSPORT: “Yeah, it was a bit of a mad situation, to be fair. But I didn’t really know what to expect. I think more stuff was in the media than being told to me.”
In the end, Spurs were forced to hand a debut to Brandon Austin, and eventually addressed the situation when the transfer window opened, securing Antonin Kinsky from Slavia Prague.
When asked about Austin making his senior bow, Keeley responded: “I haven’t had a chance to speak to him, to be fair. But he’s been at the club for a long, long time. For him to get the chance to play, and play the way he did, is brilliant for him. Brilliant.”
Keeley makes admissions about goalscoring exploits
While Keeley’s impressive performance in goal will be what interests Tottenham, the youngster has also had an impact at the other end of the pitch.
Keeley hit the headlines for scoring a stoppage-time equaliser in the FA Cup second-round clash against Oldham Athletic, and the Spurs man followed that up with an assist in a league win over Wigan Athletic.
When asked about his impact in the final third, the Tottenham man said: “I wouldn’t say I go up often. It wasn’t bad [his header]. It wasn’t bad at all – It was the last minute so I just said I’d get myself up there and be an extra number in the box.
“It’s so rare. That’s why everyone gets so hyped about it, you know what I mean? I used to be an outfielder when I was younger, I wasn’t always a goalkeeper so, I kind of always had a bit of an instinct of being in the box.”
