Presidents of Iran and Tajikistan discuss Afghanistan’s security
Masoud Pezeshkian, the President of Iran, announced that he had talked about Afghanistan with Emomali Rahmon, the President of Tajikistan.
Masoud Pezeshkian arrived in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, on the evening of Wednesday, January 15. During this visit, 22 documents and memorandums of understanding for joint cooperation were signed.
In a joint press conference with Rahmon, Pezeshkian stated, “Afghanistan is an important neighboring country, and we consider its growth and stability in line with our own interests; maintaining the security of our borders is crucial.”
According to the Iranian presidency, Pezeshkian added that they had discussed many issues, including the situation in Afghanistan.
The Tajikistan presidency also mentioned in a press release that both leaders emphasized cooperation in the fight against terrorism, extremism, and drug trafficking.
According to the press release from the Tajik presidency, which was published on Thursday, January 16, this meeting underlined the importance of coordinated regional and global efforts to combat the negative aspects of terrorism and extremism, drug trafficking, transnational organized crime, and cybercrime.
The cooperation between Iran and Tajikistan on critical issues such as security and counterterrorism reflects the growing importance of regional collaboration in addressing common challenges. Both countries appear committed to strengthening ties and ensuring the safety and stability of their shared borders.
