Nintendo Switch 2 trailer teases new Mario Kart as eagle-eyed fans spot clue for ‘incredible’ change in gameplay clip
FANS were thrilled to grab a first look at the next-generation Nintendo console, but we got to see more than just the hardware’s sleek new look.
While showcasing the new look for Nintendo’s upcoming console, the trailer also showed a new Mario Kart game being played on the Switch 2 in handheld, tabletop and TV modes.
The first trailer for the Switch 2 featured images for an upcoming Mario Kart game[/caption] We saw new vehicle type including a snowmobile and a quad bike[/caption] The open road shot at the end makes fans believe there will be open elements[/caption]Initially, people thought that the trailer was featuring Mario Kart 8 Deluxe to show the new console’s full backwards compatibility, including compatibility with physical Nintendo Switch game cards.
However, a closer look at the game that can be seen in the trailer reveals that it is unlike any Mario Kart game currently on the market.
The models for the Mario characters look more squished than in the last entry to the series, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
This more chibi style indicates that it will be a completely new Mario Kart game rather than a remake or a port.
In particular, the model for Donkey Kong looks more similar to how the character appears in the movie than in the game.
The carts and bikes that appear in the trailer also don’t look similar to vehicles in other Mario Kart games.
In fact, one of the carts looks like it has tracks and small skis on the front, suggesting that snowmobiles have been added to the series.
Another cart has very thick tires, similar to a vehicle like a quad bike, which would be another new type of vehicle.
The trailer shows a track that appears to be called Mario Bros. Circuit, which is similar to the name Mario Circuit used in a number of Mario Kart games.
We can also see a number of Mario characters in vehicles, including Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, Rosalina, Bowser and Toad.
Eagle-eyed fans also spotted 24 positions at the start line suggesting that more carts will be able to race together than ever before.
About this change one social media user wrote: “That’s double what we’re used to having. This is going to be incredible.”
The last image of the trailer shows a more open road than you see in the majority of Mario Kart tracks.
This has led many to think that the next Mario Kart game could feature open elements like a hub world.
It is unclear if this will be a new mainline entry in the series, but most people believe that it is a short teaser for Mario Kart 9.
