Fury as Sam Thompson ‘throws Zara McDermott under the bus’ after breaking silence on split
SAM Thompson has been accused of “throwing his ex Zara McDermott under the bus” as he speaks out about his “tough time” over Christmas.
Breaking his silence on their split, Made in Chelsea star Sam told how he spent Christmas Day volunteering for charity – after being left alone.
Sam and Zara broke up over Christmas[/caption]The 32-year-old spent the day delivering presents to those in need over London instead of being at Zara‘s family home as planned.
In a post that was swiftly deleted on Instagram, Sam originally described the day as “bleak” before getting involved with the charity.
After sparking concern, the reality star edited the message to say: “Bit of a different Christmas this year… What could have been another standard Christmas has turned out to be one that I’ll never forget!”
Zara, 28, commented on the post with a love heart and kisses, writing: “So proud of you, it’s so lovely that you chose to give up your Christmas Day to help others.”
Speaking on his Staying Relevant podcast with Pete Wicks, Sam admitted of Christmas: “It was tough. It’s been a tough month. A real tough month.
“I did charity on Christmas Day. Well, I was alone so I thought..”
Pete added: “My favourite message from you was when I asked ‘how was your Christmas’ and you replied ‘it was like being in a Christmas tomb’.”
However, sources close to the couple claim Sam’s change of tone about the day while addressing the split on his podcast was a dig at Zara.
An insider told The Sun: “Sam said he didn’t want to say much because ‘it wasn’t fair on other parties’, but cleverly managed to throw Zara under the bus anyway.
“Everyone knew they were meant to be spending Christmas together, but when they realised the relationship was unsalvageable, Sam ended up alone.
“They hadn’t announced their split yet and both needed time to work through their emotions, but Zara made the effort to send him a sweet message publicly to acknowledge his charity work.
“However, now Sam has opened up about what really happened, he’s shown Zara out to be in a bad light.”
Cracks in the popular pair’s five-year relationship began to show earlier this month – following a past cheating scandal and family feuds.
The Sun yesterday revealed the “real reason” behind their split – as pals claimed they clashed about their future plans – as Sam’s “immature” personality pushed him into the friendzone.
A friend of the couple told us: “Zara never felt like she was the priority with Sam.
“He always seemed to find someone or something to put before her.”
The Sun has reached out to Sam and Zara’s reps for comment.
