PATH train riders plan for 25-day closure in Hoboken
HOBOKEN, N.J. (PIX11) -- Track work is always happening to improve transit. As some big improvement projects get underway, reroutes are required.
The signs stand out at the Hoboken PATH train station. It’s a big announcement that you don’t want to miss.
Hoboken won’t have a PATH train stop for 25 days beginning late Thursday, Jan. 30. Notices went out in October, and the closure is approaching.
"We already have full buses and full ferries. I'm focused on additional service for buses and ferries. The first couple of days will be challenging and we will have an eye on it," said Tiffanie Fisher, the Hoboken City Council member from Ward 2 on the northern end opposite the train station.
The city has been meeting with planners. The Port Authority has had public information sessions, including handing out flyers at the station.
Crews are doing safety repairs and improvements at the station on signals and along the tracks. They get more done during the full closure instead of a year of weekend restrictions.
PATH will run free shuttle buses to nearby stops with added train service, including on the light rail.
NJ Transit is adding bus service on the 126 route to the Port Authority bus terminal. More ferries will run with expanded hours and they will cross-honor tickets.
PATH is in the middle of a $430 million major rehabilitation project across the system.
