Sports Briefs: Branson girls, boys win thrillers
The Branson School outlasted Archie Williams 38-36 in double-overtime in a Monday night girls basketball spectacular at College of Marin.
The Peregrine Falcons trailed at halftime but came out strong in the third quarter to take the lead. Lila Peterson hit a 3-pointer in the first overtime to give the Falcons the lead, but the Bulls’ Avery Myerberg answered with a long shot of her own as Branson forced a second overtime period.
Myerberg, Alyssa Huang and Kate Spaulding were solid from the charity stripe in the second overtime to lock up the Bulls’ win. Myerberg led the Bulls with 19 points and nine rebounds, while Spaulding brought 17 rebounds and five points and Paige Macy finished with a balanced eight points and eight rebounds.
The Falcons forged a balanced effort, led by Kaeley Sullivan and Kaiya Chiu on defense and with seven points from Reese Patton.
- Novato held off Terra Linda, 38-26, in a non-league matchup on Monday to avenge Friday’s two-point loss to the Trojans. The Hornets (9-7) are scheduled to get back to MCAL action on Friday against Tamalpais in Mill Valley. The Trojans (4-12) got a look at Tam (6-9) on Tuesday night.
Boys basketball
The Branson School got the better of Archie Williams 56-49 in a hotly contested MCAL matchup on Monday at College of Marin. Junior Chase Robertson scored a team-high 21 points and sophomore NJ Gray racked up 17 points for the Bulls (1-1 MCAL, 9-8). The Falcons (0-2 MCAL, 10-6) were led by Meezy Butler’s 14 points, while Dante Stallone had eight rebounds.
Boys soccer
Marin Catholic netted a late equalizer in a 2-2 draw at San Marin on Monday night. Griffin Ochoa and Andres Saeltzer scored the goals for MC (5-4-2, 0-0-2) while Enrique Guzman and Ochoa had the assists. Kian Caveny had both assists for San Marin (4-3-3, 0-1-1) to Ivan Gomez and Nico Romero, respectively.
