Brooke Shields Teases a New Project With These Two A-List Actresses & It Majorly Upped Her Acting Game
Brooke Shields just teased an upcoming project with some Hollywood veterans who helped her conquer some acting firsts.
On Jan. 13, Shields spoke at Flow Space‘s An Evening With Brooke Shields to discuss her new memoir, life transitions and her perspective on aging. During the chat, Shields opened up about how her acting career “is just beginning.”
“Just recently, I had the opportunity to act opposite to very, very just talented and wonderful women and and I don’t get to do that a lot,” the Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed To Get Older author said, adding that her projects haven’t “unfolded” that way in the past. Now, however, she’s “acting opposite people who are really bringing my game up or are intimidating to me.”
Who are these women, you may ask? Shields revealed in a video from the event obtained by SheKnows she is working on a yet-to-be-announced project with Glenn Close and Naomi Watts. And while Shields had met both of them before, it was the first time she was with them as talent too.
“All my life, there’s been a precarious relationship with my talent,” Shields admitted, saying that she’d tell herself she was “the pretty one” or “I’m the celebrity” and that “she’s not really all that.” “It was always something that kind of stuck in the back of my head,” she said. “And then it was supported by not getting that many opportunities to work with women with this caliber.”
Shields then remembered her first day on set, which included an emotional scene from her character, Misty. “I was pushing,” she said. “I was just pushing.”
After her first few runs of the scene, however, Shields excused herself to take a breath. “I kind of looked at myself and thought, ‘You’ve got to stop doing this right now,'” she said. “So I went outside, I went to the director, and I said, ‘I’m making Misty complicated, I don’t think she would do this. I don’t think that this would be where she has gotten to in her life. Let her daughter cry, let her daughter rant. She needs to be right there the whole time.'”
Luckily, that’s exactly what the director wanted. “The director just looked at me, and she just said, ‘Yeah, you don’t have to try so hard, Brooke,'” she said. Soon enough, Shields found her acting sweet spot. “It wasn’t overdone,” Shields said. “It was like it was the right level.”
At the end of the shoot, the director came to Shields and congratulated her. “I couldn’t make eye contact,” Shields remembered, noting that she was too embarrassed to take in the feedback. “She put her hands on my shoulders instead and said, ‘You need to hear this, you blew me away.”
Close felt the shift too. According to Shields, she got an approving wink from her at a distance.
“We need validation,” Shields added. “I’m not ashamed to have needed a nod Glenn Close.”
With Close and Watts supporting her now, here’s hoping Shields stops listening to that voice inside her head and believes in her acting chops. If so, her career’s only beginning!
