Colonie ICARE to host cook-off for homeless housing program
COLONIE, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- Colonie Central High School's ICARE character-building program, which enacts the ideologies of Integrity, Community, Accountability, Respect, and Empathy, will host a fundraising cook-off on Friday, January 24. From 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., first responders and community members will cook their best macaroni, cheese, or chili at the Colonie Village Family Recreation Center.
Local police, fire, and Colonie community members are participating in raising money for the Sheriff's Homeless Improvement Program (SHIP). The group is student-led and returns its fundraising efforts to other community organizations.
Tickets to the cook-off are $10 for adults and $5 for students with a valid ID. Attendees can also support other school clubs, as tables will sell various merchandise.
Anyone with questions or interest in booking a booth should email Assistant Principal Melissa Judge at judgem@scolonie.org. Judge said all are invited to attend in support of SHIP and celebrate the community.
"This event is about more than great food—it's a chance to come together as a community in order to help support a worthy cause," Judge said. "The dedication of these groups, who all go above and beyond, to make a positive difference in the lives of others is truly inspiring."
