Legendary Ibiza club where iconic 80s music video was filmed to be featured in wild new movie
PIKES Hotel is one of the most famous and hedonistic in Ibiza.
It was the setting for Wham!’s Club Tropicana video and where its late owner Tony Pike bedded Grace Jones and took drugs with Freddie Mercury.
Wham! shot their video for Club Tropicana at the legendary Ibiza hotel Pikes[/caption]Now, a well-placed mole tells me the scenes that played out during the Eighties and Nineties are being put together for a huge new film that will tell the rich and riotous history of Pikes, with colourful Tony forming the basis for the main character.
My insider said: “Tamer Hassan is one of the brains behind the film idea — he is working on a project to bring the legacy of Pikes to life.
“With its neon-lit dance floors, wild poolside parties and infamous celebrity guests, Pikes has been the backdrop for some of the most outrageous stories in pop culture history.
“The film will tell all those stories. But it’s not just a movie, it’s a love letter to the era.
“Pikes is more than a hotel, it’s a character in itself, with stories that need to be told.
“It’s the ultimate badge of honour to say you’ve been part of the Pikes legacy and this will take fans straight back to those wild nights.”
My mole added: “The soundtrack alone is going to be worth the hype. Think classic Ibiza anthems mixed with the biggest hits from the Eighties and Nineties.”
I can hear it already – and it sounds fantastic.
Tony died in 2019, aged 85, and while he sold the hotel in 2008, he made sure everyone knew about the amazing place.
Recalling one wild bash, Tony, who said he slept with more than 3,000 men and women, said: “All I could hear was music playing and the smell of sex and marijuana.”
He also bragged about sleeping with George Michael before shooting 1983’s Club Tropicana in the hotel, saying of the pop hero: “He was such a good-looking c***.”
Pikes, which has also welcomed celebrities including Ed Sheeran and Liam Gallagher through its doors, was at the centre of a number of myths.
My favourite is the yarn that New York club Studio 54 pumped cocaine through the air-con.
At Pikes it was said they served it up on their breakfast cereal.
When asked about it, Tony said: “Coke on cornflakes? What a waste.”
To some maybe. But to the ravers in Pikes, I bet it went down a storm.
AXL'S LATENESS EXPLAINED
HE’S as famous for being late on stage as he is for massive rock anthems with Guns N’ Roses.
Now a close friend of Axl Rose has finally revealed just why the Paradise City singer is so rubbish at timekeeping.
Trailer Park Boys rocker Mike Smith said: “Axl won’t do s**t. That’s why he went on late for so many years,”
“I talked to him about it many times, stoned out of our f***ing minds.
“I asked him, ‘How come it is that you go on so late?’
“He goes, ‘Well, I can’t walk on stage and go out there and just act, like, fake it. I can’t just act like I’m the f***ing man. When I go out there I have to believe I’m the man.’
“Sometimes it takes several hours.”
I will try that as an excuse next time I can’t be arsed to get out of bed, and see just how it pans out with the boss.
Zara’s Rabbit of all right
Zara McDermott channels Jessica Rabbit in a stunning figure-hugging red dress[/caption]I’VE no doubt these super- glamorous pictures of Zara McDermott will be uploaded on to a dating app pretty soon.
The newly single Strictly star channelled her inner Jessica Rabbit in this red dress as she shared snaps from a Paris holiday.
Zara split from her boyfriend Sam Thompson not long before she jumped on the Eurostar to France to celebrate New Year’s Eve.
She is heading back to work now and will spend the next few months working on some new documentaries for the BBC, including one that focuses on stalking.
After first appearing on Love Island in 2018 and later Strictly Come Dancing in 2023, Zara has carved out a really successful career on the box.
And I can confirm the success is probably in part down to her being just as nice in real life as she is on screen.
AN INSIDE JOB FOR PATRICE
THE second series of SIDEMEN’s reality show Inside has got a big name in football to join its ranks.
Insiders tell me former Manchester United player Patrice Evra had signed up to the new show, which follows ten influencers and celebs as they are locked inside a house trying to win a £1million prize.
A source said: “Patrice has put his name into the ring for the second series of Inside and the lads, including KSI couldn’t be happier to have him on board. Filming will start soon and Patrice will be pitting his wits against other stars to try to get his hands on the cash.”
The first series, which aired on Netflix, proved to be a hit with Sidemen’s young following.
As well as landing a second series on the streamer, a US version has also been given the go-ahead in the States.
Robbie’s spotted in New York
Robbie Williams stepped out in a leopard-print jacket after an appearance on Andy Cohen’s show WWHL[/caption]ROBBIE Williams has his look spot on thanks to this coat.
He was out in New York with wife Ayda Field after they evacuated their area in LA due to the wildfires.
They were on the US TV show Watch What Happens Live on Monday with host Andy Cohen, who is a producer for The Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills.
He told Robbie: “We’ve asked Ayda to be on Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills like five years in a row.” She said of her husband: “You got to get him on board.”
This pair are entertaining enough for their own show.
PISTOLS '78 LIVE GIGS RELEASED
THE Sex Pistols are releasing three live albums recorded during their 1978 US tour, just days before Johnny Rotten quit.
Tracks from their concert in San Francisco, as well as performances in Dallas and Atlanta, are included on the collections, which are available in a three-CD set, special vinyls and as downloads.
The releases take fans right back to the moment, when Johnny hinted at his departure by saying on stage in San Francisco: “You’ll get one number and one number only because I’m a lazy b*****d.”
At the end of the song, a cover of The Stooges’ No Fun, Johnny, above, said: “This is no fun. No fun. This is no fun – at all. No fun.”
The Atlanta recording is out on February 28, before the Dallas show album on March 28 and the final San Francisco gig on April 25.
