Southpaws Schultz at No. 30 and Smith 36, catchers Kyle Teel at No. 45 and Edgar Quero 76
Trade enough front-line talent, earn yourself a top-end system.
The new White Sox rebuild is now headlined by seven players in Baseball Prospectus’ Top 101, led by two southpaw starters who could see Chicago as early as this summer:
Noah Schultz (LHSP) 30
Hagen Smith (LHSP) 36
Colson Montgomery (SS) 43
Kyle Teel (C) 45
Edgar Quero (C) 76
Grant Taylor (RHSP) 90
Braden Montgomery (RF) 99
The top three players, plus Taylor, are White Sox draft picks. Quero came from the Angels in the Lucas Giolito trade in 2023, while Teel and Braden Montgomery arrived in time for Christmas as part of the Garrett Crochet trade.
Baseball Prospectus is bullish, obviously, on the top White Sox southpaws, and still curiously hot on Colson Montgomery, who suffered a poor 2024 in hitter-happy Charlotte. The gap between Boston product Teel and Angels draftee Quero is a bit curious, as arguably Quero boasts the better game. BP also remains high on Taylor in spite of just five pro starts since he was drafted in 2023. Braden also just cracks the Prospectus list, as last year’s No. 12 pick was drafted injured and hasn’t yet made his pro debut.
Prior Baseball Prospectus Rankings:
Colson Montgomery No. 32 in 2023, No. 11 in 2024
Edgar Quero No. 89 in 2023, No. 78 in 2024
Noah Schultz No. 57 in 2024
Kyle Teel No. 47 in 2024
As a preview of our South Side Sox Top 100, here’s how each player falls:
Noah Schultz (LHSP) 1
Hagen Smith (LHSP) 2
Edgar Quero (C) 3
Colson Montgomery (SS) 4
Kyle Teel (C) 5
Braden Montgomery (RF) 6
Grant Taylor (RHSP) 9
