'Jack Smith has raised a big red flag' about Trump's second term: reporter
CBS News' Scott MacFarlane, who for years has closely tracked all legal news related to the January 6th, 2021 attack on the United States Capitol building, said that former special counsel Jack Smith's final election subversion report is a "warning" about a second Trump term.
Writing on X, MacFarlane took note of how Smith documented attempts to threaten and intimidate witnesses who had knowledge of Trump's actions leading up to and during the deadly Capitol riots.
"Mr. Trump's resort to intimidation and harassment during the investigation was not new, as demonstrated by his actions during the charged conspiracies," Smith wrote in one part of his report. “After Mr. Trump publicly assailed these individuals, threats and harassment from his followers inevitably followed."
Smith went on to write that "those attacks had ‘real-time, real-world consequences,’ exposing ‘those on the receiving end’ to ‘a torrent of threats and intimidation’ and turning their lives 'upside down,'" as noted by MacFarlane.

Taking sum of this, MacFarlane argued that it could be an ominous signal for Trump's second term.
"Jack Smith has raised a big red flag alleging menacing, harassment and threats against those who challenge Trump," he concluded. "We’ll see if Smith’s warning is validated during this week’s confirmation hearings for Trump nominees. And we’ll see if Smith’s warning is validated on this platform."
