ACE Eddie Awards ceremony postponed due to L.A. wildfires, will be reimagined as a ‘community-building fundraiser’
Out of respect for those affected by the L.A. wildfires, the American Cinema Editors (ACE) have announced that the 2025 ACE Eddie Awards (initially slated for Saturday, Jan. 18) has been postponed. A new date for the 75th annual ceremony will be announced soon.
The reimagined gala, which will still honor Wicked director Jon M. Chu with the ACE Golden Eddie Filmmaker of the Year Award, will “pivot from a black-tie, red carpet event to a ‘Come as You Are’ community-building fundraiser,” the organization announced. In addition, a portion of the ticket sales will be donated to Southern California fire relief. The guild’s private cocktail party celebrating the ACE Eddie Awards nominees is also being moved to a new date. See more event changes in the wake of the wildfires.
The guild’s official statement is: “Due to the ongoing concerns for safety within our L.A. communities, we have made arrangements with UCLA and Royce Hall to postpone the 75th ACE Eddie Awards. The preceding Nominee Cocktail Party will also be rescheduled. The ACE Board agrees it is smarter and safer for everyone to push to a later date (TBD). When that date is finalized, we will still be pivoting the ceremony to a community-building fundraiser rather than a full-fledged black-tie gala. As soon as we know more, we will share the information. This is unprecedented and we are trying to stay as fluid as possible. Again, as soon as we have details we will let you know, and when the event finally happens we will need to band together more than ever before. Thank you for your understanding, and it goes without saying that our hearts go out to all of our members who have been affected by the fires and to our industry as a whole.”
ACE president Sabrina Plisco added, “We look forward to honoring the incredible work of our honorees and nominees and coming together as a community to support each other. In the meantime, we are keeping everyone impacted by these fires in our hearts.”
On Dec. 11, the American Cinema Editors announced the nominations in film and television (see below). Chu will receive the ACE Golden Eddie Filmmaker of the Year Award, which recognizes a filmmaker “who exemplifies distinguished achievement in the art and business of film.” Meanwhile, film editors Maysie Hoy and Paul Hirsch will receive Career Achievement Awards “for their outstanding contributions to film editing.”
