Lucy Liu Has No Regrets About Bill Murray Confrontation on 'Charlie's Angels' Set
Lucy Liu is reflecting on her confrontation with Bill Murray.
The Charlie’s Angels actress called an uncomfortable encounter on the set of the 2000 film with her co-star during an interview with The Guardian.
Lucy shared that Bill insulted her, using language that was “inexcusable and unacceptable,” prompting her to stand up for herself.

“I really didn’t think about it,” she told the outlet.
“I would have done that in any situation. I think when I sense something is not right, I am going to protect myself. It’s an innate thing to do if you feel there’s injustice, and I always feel that way.”
Lucy added she is not the sort of person who can keep quiet or simply let things slide.
“If I was, it would have been a much easier road,” she went on. “But because I’ve never been that person, we had to find a way.”
Lucy spoke about the incident more in-depth back in 2021, during an interview with the Los Angeles Times‘ Asian Enough podcast.
“I won’t get into the specifics, but it kept going on and on. I was, like, ‘Wow, he seems like he’s looking straight at me,’” she said, explaining that she eventually asked him point-blank if he was talking to her.
The actor began to “hurl insults” in her direction.
“No matter how low on the totem pole you may be or wherever you came from, there’s no need to condescend or to put other people down,” she explained. “And I would not stand down, and nor should I have.”
Lucy said that she has since crossed paths with Bill and had amicable conversations, but doesn’t regret standing up for herself.
“I’m not going to sit there and be attacked. I don’t want to be that person that is not going to speak up for myself and stand by the only thing that I have, which is my dignity and self-respect.”
