Mother and daughter escape Lafayette house fire Monday night
LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- Two people escaped a house fire without injury in Lafayette Monday night, authorities said.
Lafayette firefighters responded to multiple 911 calls of a house fire in the 300 block of Jeanette Street at 7:12 p.m. Monday.
The two occupants, a woman and her adult daughter, were inside when they heard a popping sound, authorities said. The mother looked outside and noticed the carport was on fire. Both exited through a back door, and a neighbor helped them across a fence in the backyard.
When firefighters arrived, portions of the dwelling were engulfed in flames, authorities said.
The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes, but the home sustained heavy fire damage, officials said. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
