Classes resume at Montclair Public Schools after teacher arrested
MONTCLAIR, N.J. (PIX11) – Classes will resume at Montclair Public Schools in New Jersey on Tuesday after a teacher was arrested and accused of making terroristic threats on social media.
The district closed on Monday after school officials were made aware of the threat. The Montclair Police Department said it teamed up with school officials, Essex County prosecutors and the FBI to track down 45-year-old Amir Doctry, a teacher on administrative leave accused of making the threat.
Doctry allegedly threatened a staff member of Northeast Elementary School in a video posted to YouTube. The video's caption read, "Joe must die school shooting Montclair."
The video is being reviewed as part of the investigation into the threat, according to authorities. Police patrols were also increased at Montclair schools, "out of an abundance of caution."
Doctry was found at a Philadelphia home around 8 a.m. on Monday and arrested without incident, police said. He's facing charges including terroristic threats.
Police also encourage parents, staff and students to remain vigilant and report suspicious behavior.
