New luxury women's homeless shelter to open in Troy
TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A new luxury women's homeless shelter will be opening up in Troy. Live Limitless Refuge Center, located at 3075 Sixth Avenue, will open towards the end of February or in March.
This shelter is meant for single women. Each sleeping space will have a shared bathroom, clothing, toiletries, meals, and laundry all included with each woman's stay, according to founder Demetria Canty.
Canty also said that women will be able to stay at the shelter anywhere from 30 days up to six months, depending on the individual situation. The shelter will also have services for these women to teach financial literacy, help with employment, wellness, and mental health, as well as help them find transitional or permanent housing.
There will be a donation drive drop-off for the shelter on January 18 at the Troy Boy's and Girl's Club to provide the shelter with necessities for opening. They are accepting personal and feminine hygiene products, kitchen products like pots, pans, toaster ovens, and plates, clothing and shoes, and household products like laundry detergent, bleach, dryer sheets, and shower curtains. Gift card donations are also welcome.
The founder also wanted to add that this shelter will provide makeovers to help women feel beautiful and boost their self-esteem. Their motto is: "If you look good, you feel good, if you feel good, you want better!"
