Frost, fog to keep Portland area chilly Tuesday
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- Early morning frost and fog will keep the greater Portland, Vancouver area feeling like the middle of January on Tuesday.
A chill to the morning air will be met with frost and fog along the Willamette Valley on Tuesday. Sunrise temperatures will remain in the mid-30s as fog fades to clouds by mid-morning. The mostly cloudy skies will keep temperatures chilly throughout the day as highs only manage to warm into the low to mid-40s.
Frost will melt throughout the morning hours visibility improves across the I-5 corridor. Some low-lying areas could have visibility reduced to nearly a quarter mile or less through 10 a.m.
Skies will clear more quickly along the coast and over higher elevated regions of the Cascades. Ski conditions will remain pleasant as the afternoon freezing line climbs to nearly 6,000.' A bit of a break in the clouds will only increase through the week as bluebird conditions return to Mt. Hood.
The lack of new weather patterns will keep gloomy skies along the Willamette Valley through the middle of the week. A breakdown in the fog and cloud coverage will help afternoon temperatures warm briefly. Clearing skies will keep morning lows chilly with upper 20s expected by the end of the weekend.
