I work at Tesco and there’s a new, major change to our meal deals – it’s totally game changing for winter
A TESCO employee has revealed a new, major change to the supermarket’s meal deals – and it’s game changing for winter.
So if you’re a fan of the popular lunch deal, which is £3.60 for Clubcard members and £4 for non-members, you’ll be pleased to know that there’s a brand new snack available.
Shoppers can now get soup as a side[/caption] People have been left stunned by the ‘game changer’ change – and praised the chain for its ‘impeccable work’[/caption]Whilst many of us will often reach for a bag of crisps, a tasty fruit pot or a cheeky chocolate bar to accompany our Tesco meal deal main, a supermarket worker has shared the new snack that you won’t want to miss.
Nathan Lorenzo, 27, a part-time actor and Tesco employee, took to social media to share the ‘absolute game changer’ news, leaving many beaming.
In a short clip, Nathan said: “I don’t know who needs to hear this, but Tesco are now doing…wait for it, soup in the meal deal.
“I think this is absolute genius from Tesco because it’s absolutely freezing in the UK right now and what do you do when you’re cold? You have soup or something hot.”
As a result, Nathan picked up a New Covent Garden Creamy Tomato Soup, which is normally £1.30 from Tesco when sold separately, and added: “So I got myself a little tomato soup to warm me up.
“As a snack – it’s not even a main, as a snack.”
Alongside his soup, Nathan got his hands on a honey ham with emmental cheese and hot buttermilk coleslaw sandwich and a Fanta Lemon.
The content creator then continued: “So that’s my meal deal for the day – I would give this, I would say, quite comfortably, a solid nine out of 10, because you’ve got the little summer bits, your winter bits and then you’ve got a limited edition sandwich.”
The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @nathanlorenzo_ just 21 hours ago, has clearly impressed many, as it has quickly racked up a whopping 286,200 views.
Social media users were overjoyed to hear that shoppers can now nab soup as part of their meal deal – but were even more pleased to know that it wasn’t a main and was in fact a side.
One person said: “So elite.”
Another added: “I hope you’re getting paid for this because I have been INFLUENCED.”

Insider tip from a Tesco employee
A Tesco employee has revealed a surprising secret about the self-scan trolleys.
According to the worker, random checks on customers using these trolleys are not entirely random.
The checks are actually triggered by a specific customer habit.
If you frequently pick up and put down items without scanning them, you’re more likely to be selected for a check.
This is due to the system detecting suspicious behaviour, which could indicate potential theft.
So, to avoid delays, it’s best to scan items immediately after placing them in your trolley.
At the same time, one happy foodie beamed: “AS A SNACK, Tesco treating us in 2025.”
The nation’s favourite meal deal snack
News of the latest meal deal snack comes just days after outrage erupted over Britain’s ‘favourite’ meal deal.
For the past few years, Tesco’s annual meal deal rankings have caused a stir, but the 2024 results have left some customers downright baffled.
It comes after outrage erupted over the nation’s go-to combo[/caption]The supermarket revealed that the nation’s favourite combination for 2024 includes the Tesco Chicken Club Sandwich, a Tesco Egg Protein pot (90g), and Coca-Cola original taste (500ml).
Tesco based the ranking for the best Meal Deal on data from Clubcard members’ most purchased combinations in 2024.
But shoppers were quick to voice their displeasure, with many taking to social media to question why the Egg Protein Pot has gained so much popularity.
One user on X (formerly Twitter) said: “Egg? Over crisps or chocolate??”
While another branded the choice “sick” and questioned: “Who the f*** is buying that?”.
