Major energy firm is giving millions of customers £25 worth of Tesco Clubcard points
MILLIONS of Tesco shoppers can get £25 worth of Clubcard points for free through their energy supplier.
Ovo Energy customers can earn 2,500 free Tesco Clubcard points simply by linking their accounts online.
What’s more, the deal is available to new and existing customers.
The 2,500 Clubcard points can be converted into a £25 voucher to spend at Tesco or doubled in value to £50 when redeemed with over 100 Clubcard Reward Partners.
These partners offer a wide range of rewards, including family days out, discounts at popular restaurant chains, and various fun experiences.
To qualify for this offer, customers must pay by Direct Debit and have a smart meter installed.
Existing OVO customers just need to log into their online account, click on the profile icon and then ‘Our Partners’, followed by the Tesco Clubcard logo to check their eligibility.
From here, you can link your OVO and Tesco Clubcard accounts and activate the offer to claim the free reward.
Once activated, Tesco will credit your 2,500 Clubcard points within 60 days.
New OVO customers can link their Tesco Clubcard account when they sign up with the energy supplier, with the points then credited within 60 days.
To qualify for the freebie you must the following six criteria:
- be a new or existing OVO customer on any fixed or standard variable tariff (Pay As You Go customers are not eligible)
- have a smart meter
- pay by Direct Debit
- have a Tesco Clubcard online account
- have an OVO online account or the OVO mobile app
- link your Tesco Clubcard to your OVO account (must be 18 years or over)
If you don’t have a Clubcard you can register for one on the Tesco website for free.
Members of the scheme can earn points for every £1 spent on their shop.
These are then turned into vouchers, with every 150 points giving you £1.50 in Clubcard vouchers.
The vouchers can then be spent in store or online to get money off your shop.
Or they can be doubled in value with Tesco Reward Partners like Pizza Express, Hotels.com and Disney+.
The 2,500 OVO points can only be claimed once per household and only one Tesco Clubcard can be linked to your OVO account.
Customers have until June 11, 2025, to claim the points.
But customers should note that if you switch energy suppliers during the first 60 days of signing up then you won’t get the reward.
What can I get with Tesco Clubcard?
TESCO'S Clubcard scheme allows shoppers to earn points as they shop.
These points can then be turned into vouchers for money off food at the supermarket, or discounts at other places like restaurants and days out.
Each time you spend £1 in-store and online, you get one point when you scan your Clubcard.
Drivers using the loyalty card get one point for every two litres spent on fuel.
One point equals 1p, so 150 points gets you a £1.50 money-off voucher, for example.
You can double their worth when you swap them for discounts with “reward partners”.
For example, £12 worth of vouchers can be swapped for a £24 three-month subscription to Disney+.
Or you can swap 50p worth of points for £1 to spend at Hungry Horse pubs.
Where you can spend them changes regularly, and you can check on the Tesco website what’s available now.
Tesco shoppers can also get Clubcard prices when they have the loyalty card.
The discounted items change regularly and without a Clubcard you’ll pay a higher price.
These Clubcard prices are usually labelled on shelves, along with the non-member price.
But it’s worth noting that just because it’s discounted doesn’t necessarily make it the cheapest around, and you should compare prices to find the best deal.
You can sign up to get a Tesco Clubcard in store or online via the Tesco website.
Lizzie Reynolds, Tesco Group membership and loyalty director, previously told The Sun: “Clubcard unlocks the best value at Tesco and we are always looking for new ways to bring even more benefits to the 22million UK households that have a Clubcard.
“Thanks to our new partnership with OVO, many Clubcard holders can now unlock 2,500 extra Clubcard points, giving money off their shopping or to double in value with more than 100 Clubcard reward partners.”
Just last year, Ovo Energy launched its own loyalty programme dubbed Ovo Beyond.
The offering is said to help customers unlock up to £1,500 of savings and discounts on selected partner products and services.
This includes discounts on smart thermostats, free boiler service, and 30% off heating and plumbing repairs.
Customers will also have the opportunity to bank free miles and bill credit to be redeemed in the future when they switch to an electric vehicle, install solar panels and more.
OTHER ENERGY SUPPLIER LOYALTY SCHEMES
OVO Energy isn’t the first firm to launch a loyalty scheme in recent years.
Octopus Energy, the UK’s second biggest supplier, unveiled “Octoplus” last October.
Customers can earn money by taking part in the firm’s Saving Sessions which credits customers back for using energy during peak times.
Households can also get free weekly coffee from Greggs, discounted Odeon cinema tickets and bonus loyalty points for referring friends and family through the scheme.
Octoplus is free to sign up for through the Octopus Energy app or via your online account.
The E.ON Next Plus loyalty scheme also offers customers, depending on their length of service with the provider, discounts on shopping and money off bills.
For example, you get £20 off your yearly bill if you have been with E.ON Next for one year or more.
Customers who have been with the firm for two years or more can get £50 off their bill.
There are extra eligibility criteria to meet, too, with more information available on the energy firm’s website.
You can sign up for the loyalty scheme via the E.ON Next app, downloadable via Google Play or the Apple App Store.
