2025 Circuit Racing to kick-start with Passion for Speed double-header
The 2025 local circuit-racing motorsport season will commence at the end of January (31 January – 1 February) with the 24th edition of the annual Passion For Speed event at Zwartkops International World of Motoring.
The de facto South African season opener will again see a second instalment the week after (7-8 February). Previously, the second round was held at the coast; however, in 2025, this form will be part of an inland double-header, this time at Red Star Raceway. This marks the first occasion for the circuit outside Delmas to be included in the programme.
The closer proximity of the two events will also make it easier and more affordable for most competitors to participate in both events.
The marquee event was started by Peter du Toit, owner of the Zwartkops International World of Motoring facility, to celebrate motorsport and its rich heritage. While the initial editions predominantly featured historic racing and a host of prestigious cars from South African motorsport glory days, the past decade has seen some of the modern series competing across the country also join the roster. At present, The Passion For Speed is the longest-running annual motorsport event in South Africa. It is also the only local circuit-racing event that regularly sees participants from abroad on the entry list.
The various Legends of the 9-HOUR categories will headline the on-circuit action for both events. These include Pre’74 International Sports Racing Prototypes, Trans-AM, Pre’66 Production Cars, Pre’66/68 LITTLE Giants, incl. U2, and the 45-minute race for the Pre’66/68 Le Mans Sports & GT, incl. Classic Touring Cars. The Evapco Historic Racing South Africa series and their Pursuit Challenge will also be on both rosters.
The Zwatkops International World of Motoring will also see the Extreme SuperCars driven by Dunlop, Historic Single Seaters, BMW ///M Performance Parts Race Series, and DOE Formula Vee partnered with CIM Lubricants. The latter of these series will celebrate their 60-year anniversary at the event, the longest-running circuit racing series in the country.
The following week’s outing at Red Star Raceway will see the previous group make way for the Formula Libre Association, incl. SA Formula “M” Racing Club, INEX Legends, International Race Supplies & Roofsure MHCC Racing, incl. On Track Clubmans & National Sports Car Championship, Lotus Challenge, and Silver Cup 2.0. In a first for the Passion for Speed since the 2020 edition, motorcycle racing will return to the roster in the form of the Classic Superbike Racing Association.
However, fan entertainment will not be limited to what happens on the circuit, notably at the Zwartkops International World of Motoring event. The circuit has set South Africa’s standard for entertainment for the entire family. This year’s edition will again see demonstrations of, amongst others, Formula 1 race cars, while some of those attending the event will be treated to passenger laps around the circuit. Those wishing to take a break from the fast-paced action on the circuit can enjoy live music while searching for their preferred choice of food and drink. As always, spectators are encouraged to bring their portable braais, gazebos, camping chairs, and refreshments to make this an exceptional family day trip next to the circuit. Spectators with weekend tickets are also welcome to partake in the tradition of camping at the circuit.
Weekend tickets for the Zwartkops International World of Motoring Passion For Speed can be purchased ahead of the event from Computicket. When purchasing online, tickets are available at R220 per adult and R140 per student. Tickets will also be available at the entrance gate at R230 and R150 for adults and students, respectively. Friday-only tickets can also be purchased at the entrance gate at R130 per adult and R120 per student. The following week’s Red Star Raceway Passion For Speed Saturday tickets will be available at the entrance gate at R120 per adult. Children under 12 years will gain access free of charge at both events.
