Men’s & Boys’ Volleyball – Binge Watch 3-Day Weekend
As we come together to celebrate the birth of Martin Luther King, JR, the best of boys and men’s volleyball will be on full display throughout the country. If you are a volleyball fan, there will be something for you to watch this weekend. Here is just some of the matches/tournaments you can watch:
NCAA Men’s Volleyball
First Point Collegiate Challenge in Austin, Texas will be hosting UCLA, Ohio State, Stanford and Penn State on Friday and Saturday. For more info on this amazing event please go to our extended coverage.
However, the amazing NCAA volleyball does not end here, here is a rundown of some of the other big matchups
1/16
- Princeton vs. Hawaii – Info
- BYU vs. Ball State
- Long Beach State vs. McKendree – Watch – Moni Nikolov is coming to Midwest
1/17
- George Mason vs. Grand Canyon – home opener for the ‘Lopes after they posted 2 wins vs. NJIT.
- St Francis vs. Loyola Chicago
- IPFW vs. CSUN
- USC vs. D’Youville – If you are at SoCal Cup this would be a nice match to attend while in Los Angeles (5-10 minute drive from convention center). Adult tickets are $5 and all kids under 18 get in for free. For tickets go here: D’Youville | University of Southern California
1/18
- Princeton vs. Hawaii
- George Mason vs. Grand Canyon
- Long Beach State vs. Lewis
This is just a small taste of all the matches. It feels like all the schools sponsoring men’s volleyball are playing this weekend!
Boys Volleyball
This weekend there are 3 major boys volleyball tournaments going on around the country with a number of smaller tournaments also happening. Unfortunately, SoCal Cup attendance will likely be lessened due to devastating fires in the Los Angeles area but many of the teams will still be attending.
SoCal Cup Open Championship in Los Angeles – Watch on BallerTV | Schedule (TBD) – 670 teams registered (as of today, pending potential cancellations); unfortunately, this tournament will be marred with the tragic Los Angeles fires. The tournament directors have done a remarkable job of keeping the attending teams posted on the latest developments in an ever-changing situation in California. We sincerely hope the tournament does go on as it would likely indicate that situation in Los Angeles is improving. On volleyball front we cannot comment much as we are not sure what teams will end up attending. As of this writing, HVA (attending Southwest Boys Classic) and Cincinnati Attack (attending Nike Classic) have pulled out of the tournament and others may reduce the number of teams attending.
Boys Winter Volleyball Championship in Chicago – Watch on BallerTV | Schedule – 172 teams registered; this tournament highlights the struggles of the USA Volleyball in boys’ space. In ’22 it had 429 teams registered but now it’s a shell of its former self. Having said that this was a very well-run event in the past so I am sure it will be fun for the kids attending. Probably the best team in attendance here is C2 Attack 16 Boys Elite who a couple of years ago finished 2nd in the country in 14s and 5th last year in 15s at AAU Nationals. C2 will be playing at USAV nationals this year and will not attend SoCal Cup Open Championships where they finished 2nd last year.
Southwest Boys Classic in Austin – Watch on BallerTV | Schedule (TBD) – 151 teams registered; this tournament is run alongside First Point Collegiate Challenge and you can read more about it at our post here.
TransPacific Volleyball Championships – Watch Here | Schedule – 77 teams registered; mostly Hawaiian teams with limited streaming options for 18U category only as they will be playing in the convention center.
There are other tournaments going on with 20-70+ boys teams in each so we are well over 1000+ teams competing this weekend. Amazing job growing the sport by all club directors, parents and most of all the kids playing! Thank you all!
In the end this slate of volleyball matches should tide over even the most diehard volleyball fan! Enjoy a great weekend of volleyball
