Pittsfield middle school closed Jan. 14 for heating, electrical issues
PITTSFIELD, Mass. (NEWS10) -- Herberg Middle School in the city of Pittsfield will be closed on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2025 as heating and electrical issues in the building continue. Students were dismissed at 11 a.m. on Monday after the school realized its boilers were not working properly.
To meet the 180 school days requirement, Superintendent of Pittsfield Public Schools Joseph Curtis said Herberg will make up the missed day on June 18, shifting the last day of school.
The district saw boiler problems at the high school in October. The school was closed for two days while a temporary boiler was installed.
Superintendent Curtis said the issue at the middle school should be resolved on Tuesday, and families will be notified of the building's status by Tuesday evening.
Anyone with questions may call the main office at (413) 448-9640 ext. 4001. The principal may also be reached by email at wwood@pittsfield.net.
