'Lawyer up': MAGA attorney vows 'justice is coming' for prosecutor who led J6 cases
A far-right attorney with close ties to President-elect Donald Trump — and a penchant for threats — turned his gaze onto a federal prosecutor who led the Jan. 6, 2021, investigation against rioters at the Capitol.
Matthew Graves served as the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia from 2021 to 2025. He was nominated by President Joe Biden and announced he would resign effective Thursday, Jan. 16, four days before Trump's inauguration.
Graves became a target among many on the right as he oversaw the largest investigation in Justice Department history into the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection, resulting in charges against nearly 1,600 people.
Mike Davis, founder and president of the Article III Project who previously served as chief counsel for nominations to Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley, has mocked Democrats and others for turning Jan. 6 into a “religious holiday.”
Davis was previously rumored to have been a candidate for Trump's attorney general.

On Monday night, he threatened Graves on X over a clip of Graves telling a local television station he doesn't want a pardon from President Joe Biden, and doesn't believe Jan. 6 rioters ought to receive them either, as promised by Trump.
"I do not believe that anyone deserves a pardon and I don't think that should be surprising," said Graves, adding that many rioters who entered the Capitol rode the "coattails" of violent offenders to do so.
"Lawyer up, Matthew Graves. And your January 6th prosecutors, agents, and other co-conspirators who persecuted Trump supporters. Justice is coming. Motherf---ers."
