Brentford vs Man City preview

Brentford and Manchester City arrive at the Gtech Community Stadium after extremely differing fortunes in the FA Cup over the weekend.

The Bees suffered an embarrassing 1-0 defeat against the Championship’s bottom club Plymouth Argyle, while Pep Guardiola’s side surged to an 8-0 victory against League Two Salford – their biggest win since January 2019.

And it’s perhaps reflective of where these two sides are at the moment.

Thomas Frank’s side previously boasted the best home record in the Premier League, but have now lost each of their last three on home turf – scoring just once.

Aside from Brentford’s 5-0 hammering of rock-bottom Southampton, they’ve lost five of their last seven in all competitions, collecting four from a possible 15 points in the league.

Strangely enough goals have been the problem for the Bees, who’ve failed to score more than once in six of their last seven games.

That said, they still rank fifth for xG (6.56) over the last four top-flight matches and have only blanked once against Manchester City in their last five meetings.

As for the visitors, they appear to have turned a corner following a bleak December. Manchester City have won their last two Premier League games, having won just one of their previous nine in the competition (D2 L6).

Guardiola’s champions also rank fourth for xG from Open Play in their last two outings, fifth for shots at goal and have won their last three against the Bees.

Phil the power

Phil Foden seems to be gradually returning to form after a difficult start to the campaign. The England international, 24, has two goals and an assist in his last five appearances for the Cityzens.

No Manchester City player has had more attempts at goal than Foden (11) over the last four league matches, while only Erling Haaland can better his xG (1.20). He’s also got a fantastic record against the Bees having scored five in six appearances.

Damsgaard

Mikkel Damsgaard looks decent value at 3/1 to provide an assist on Tuesday against a Manchester City side with one clean sheet from their last ten away matches.

Only Mohamed Salah (13) and Bukayo Saka (10) have provided more Premier League assists this season than Brentford’s Damsgaard (7). Meanwhile, the only Brentford player to provide more in a single campaign than Damsgaard is Bryan Mbeumo in 2022-23 (8).

Damsgaard has created 30 chances for his colleagues, with 10 of those classified as ‘big chances’ – the most in the Brentford squad.
