Fabrizio Romano confirms £12.5m Man Utd ace 'could leave' on loan, he won 100% duels vs Arsenal
Manchester United are working on outgoings as they look to boost their transfer kitty.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Tyrell Malacia could leave the club in January.
Malacia joined United from Feyenoord in a £12.5 million deal in 2022. He was the first signing of Erik ten Hag’s era.
The Netherlands international was viewed as a strong competitor to Luke Shaw for the left-back spot.
His progress was curtailed after suffering a horrible injury, which forced him out for the entire 2023/24 campaign. It took him 17 months to return to action.
Manager Ruben Amorim has cautiously used Malacia over the last few weeks.
He has featured five times, with his latest appearance coming on Sunday in United’s FA Cup victory over Arsenal.
Malacia did a decent job of neutralising the attacking threat possessed by Raheem Sterling. He won both of his duels and made one tackle and one clearance.
The 25-year has struggled in the previous appearances, looking short of pace and confidence.
Understandably, overcoming a series of setbacks during recovery makes it hard for any player to regain their best rhythm.
Wing-backs play a crucial role in Amorim’s 3-4-3 system. United are eager to strengthen this position, with a new left wing-back at the top of their list.
To raise the necessary funds, a loan move with a mandatory buy clause could be the perfect solution, giving them the flexibility to pursue the ideal fit for their evolving system.
A transfer will also allow Malacia to restart his career at a new club.
