The fight to battle the California fires continues as one Albany native recounts her experience. In Fulton County, two fishers fell into frigid waters while ice fishing on Great Sacandaga Lake Sunday morning, and one of them was later pronounced dead at the hospital. 1. One dead after two men fall through ice on Great Sacandaga Lake
Fulton County Sheriff’s Office and New York State Police are investigating after two people fell through the ice of the Great Sacandaga Lake on Sunday morning. One of the people rushed to St. Mary’s emergency room has died after being pulled out of the frigid waters, officials said.
2. MiSci puts on sensory-friendly event for those with special needs
The first of an event a part of a monthly special program called ‘Sensory Sunday,’ was held from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Museum of Innovation and Science, MiSci, on Sunday. The new program invited those of all ages with special sensory needs to experience the museum in a sensory-friendly way. The event will take place every third Sunday of each month.
3. Albany native recounts California wildfire nightmare
More than 100,000 people are under evacuation orders in California as the wildfires continue to spread. One woman who was born and raised in Albany, but moved to California about a decade ago, detailed what the fires have been like and the devastation her family has seen.
4. Albany man arrested after troopers find over 50 firearms
State Police arrested an Albany man on Wednesday following a year-long investigation led by the Special Investigations Unit’s Albany Gun Trafficking Interdiction Unit. Troopers said Demetrio Daga, 42, was found with a loaded ghost handgun and was manufacturing ghost guns in his home with 3D printers and various gun parts.
Daga was placed in the custody of Albany County Jail without bail and will appear in court for his pre-deposition on Monday at 10:00 a.m.
5. More suspensions issued in Robert Brooks case
Four more people have been disciplined in connection to the fatal beating of Marcy Correctional Facility inmate Robert Brooks. They were suspended without pay.
