Sports briefs: Redwood tops Marin Catholic in non-league tilt
The Redwood High boys basketball team leaned on a balanced attack to secure a 59-54 victory in a non-league game against Marin Catholic on Saturday night. The two teams are set to face off in MCAL play at MC on Jan. 21.
Semetri Carr and Brennan Woodley scored 12 points each to pace the Giants (9-4). Simon Leonard and Noah Tanaka added 10 apiece and Tyler White scored eight against MC (8-10).
Redwood resumes league play with a home game against San Rafael on Tuesday night while MC is set to host San Marin.
- Terra Linda pushed its win streak to four games following a 57-36 home victory against Marin Academy on Saturday night. Evan Brewster led the Trojans (12-3) with 15 points while Pele Love added 14. TL led 30-20 at the half but gained separation in the third quarter when it held Marin Academy (8-8) to just five points.
- San Marin (9-6) dropped a 52-44 game against Rancho Cotate (13-2) on Saturday night.
Girls basketball
Brianna Nottingham led the way with 10 points but San Marin lost a 38-37 nailbiter against Ukiah on Saturday night. Quincy Dean, Delaney Butler, and Eleanna Schramm all scored six points apiece for the Mustangs (13-4).
San Marin has a big week ahead with a road game at Marin Catholic on Tuesday followed by a home game against Branson on Friday.
- Marin Catholic defeated Menlo School 58-46 on Saturday night. The result was reported incorrectly in Sunday’s print edition. Izzy McFadden led the way with 24 points for MC (9-7), which handed Menlo (10-1) its first loss. Simone Claxton added 12 points for the Wildcats and Brooke Spagnuolo scored 10.
Women’s basketball
Alaiyah San Juan had 17 points and Linzie Taylor posted a double-double to guide Dominican University to a 63-52 win over Jessup on Saturday.
The Penguins (11-8, 5-3 PacWest) led by two at the half and pulled away gradually in the final two quarters to secure their fifth consecutive win. Taylor had 12 points and 15 rebounds for Dominican. San Juan added eight rebounds. Abby Cooper scored 14 points.
