Centralia officer kills man during 'physical fight'
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- A domestic disturbance turned deadly when a man began fighting with a responding Centralia police officer, who shot and killed the man.
The incident unfolded shortly before 11 a.m. Sunday near 400 N. Ash Street, Centralia police said in a release. When police arrived at the home, the man "got into a physical fight" with the officer, who then shot the man. Despite emergency treatment, the man -- who has not been publicly identified -- died at the scene.
The officer, who suffered undisclosed injuries in the fight, has also not been named publicly, but is now on standard administrative leave.
The investigation is active and ongoing and will be led by the Washington State Office of Independent Investigations. Body-worn camera footage is being reviewed and will be released at a later time.
