HVCC keeps up record student retention rates
TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- Hudson Valley Community College is attributing various academic and student support efforts to a new record of student retention over the last three years. Since the Fall 2021 semester, the college has retained 60% of students.
Associate Dean for Academic Advisement and Retention Matthew Howe said the 2021 Fall semester was also the first semester the college had a retention rate of over 60% for first-time and full-time students. Over the last few years, academic and support efforts have included new programs offered through the Center for Academic Engagement, like the Graduation, Achievement, and Placement Program and the Student Senate and Athletics Retention Program.
College officials said retention is a priority for campus efforts, especially the Retention Committee, which includes members from all college divisions.
"All of the retention efforts that have been put in place over the past several years are aimed at keeping students on track toward completion here at Hudson Valley," Officer in Charge Louis Coplin said. "Our advisement, student service offices and academic support staff are constantly innovating and working with students to help them persist and reach their goals."
