Why the Kansas City Chiefs Aren't Playing in NFL Playoffs Today, Despite Being a Top Super Bowl 2025 Contender!
The Kansas City Chiefs are a heavily favored team to make it to the 2025 Super Bowl next month…but you might be confused why the team isn’t playing in the playoffs today.
Well, it’s because the Chiefs – led by Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and some other big stars – have acquired the “number 1 seed” in the 2025 playoffs!
If you’re not an NFL fan, the number 1 seed is the team with the best record in each of the two divisions: AFC and NFC. The Chiefs have the number 1 seed for the AFC, while the Lions got it for the NFC.
The best part about getting the number 1 seed is that the teams get a week off to rest while Wild Card playoffs take place. The wild card winners then advance to play on either January 18 or January 19 in the divisional round, when the Lions and Chiefs will also play. The winners of those divisional games go on to play in the NFC and AFC Championship games on January 26. The two teams that win the Championship games go on to play in the 2025 Super Bowl on February 9.
Find out which NFL star is the highest paid player of 2024-2025…and it’s not Patrick Mahomes!
