Masked Singer star Macy Gray refused to leave Australia version of show three years before storming off new UK series
MACY Gray’s stage storm-off on The Masked Singer UK on Saturday night proved to be quite the shocking moment – however, it’s not the first time this has happened.
The 57-year-old I Try singer was eliminated on Saturday night after the judges recognised her distinctive voice.

But her epically awkward storm out is not the first time she’s done so on The Masked Singer.
This is Macy’s third time on the franchise, previously appearing as Atlantis on the Australian version of the show in 2021, and Sea Queen in the US in 2023.
While she made it through to the finals in the US, in Australia she was also eliminated early.
However, she refused to remove her mask when required to do so.
Show judge Dave Hughes (best known as Hughesy), later shared what happened on Australian radio show 2Day FM’s Morning Crew.
“Macy Gray had such passion for The Masked Singer that when she was told that she had to leave the show, which you saw last night, she refused to leave the show,” he said.
“She said, ‘No, I’m continuing in the show,’ and there had to be a discussion which went for quite a while as to, ‘No, you have to leave.’ She said, ‘No, I’m not leaving.’
“The thing is, we can’t do the end of the show unless the head comes off.”
So Saturday’s reveal proved to be another blow to the singer, who was reportedly ‘blindsided’ by the decision to be the third off the show.
Instead of sticking around for the reveal, Macy stormed off the stage.
Crew members needed an hour to coax her back for the unmasking, where she gave blunt, one-word answers before the show ended.
Fans later branded the moment “f**king awkward”.
A source from the set told The Sun: “This has never happened on The Masked Singer before.
Who has left The Masked Singer 2025 so far?
Much to the delight of telly fans, The Masked Singer is back in 2025.
Twelve celebrities have been hidden behind intricate costumes, with their identities concealed.
Sadly, not all of this year’s whacky and wonderful characters can make it to the end of the show, as there can only be one winner.
Here’s who has been unmasked so far:
Pegasus – the mythical horse was revealed to be Prue Leith, with judge Jonathan Ross correctly guessing her identity
Spag Bol – this character was first to be unmasked and was none other than Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway.
Plus there was one extra unmasking this season, with Giant Joel – a caricature of host Joel Dommett – unveiled as double-double Olympic champion Sir Mo Farah.
“When Macy stormed off stage everyone was frozen in shock but as soon as she reached backstage, crew removed her mask so they could talk her down.
“Macy was almost shell-shocked to start with and was basically gutted to be out so early because she really enjoyed being on the American version – when obviously she did brilliantly – so was totally blindsided.”
“It was the shock of it for her as well as the upset and in that moment she had a very raw, human reaction and wanted out,” they added.
“For a professional performer to reach that point shows how badly she felt.
“Obviously The Masked Singer isn’t a singing competition and is just a bit of fun, so being voted off was no indication of her talent, but no one could believe a global superstar like Macy had lost it like this.
“It took everyone backstage ages to talk her round and poor Joel was on stage essentially doing a stand-up routine to try and keep things under control.
The Masked Singer continues Saturday at 7pm on ITV1.
