Beauty fans race to snap up re-released Mac lipstick in the EXACT shade Angelina Jolie swore by for her iconic 90s pout
BEAUTY fans have been left delighted after MAC announced they would be re-releasing the lipstick Angelina Jolie swore by to get her iconic 90s pout.
The actress famously used the shade Folio to get the nude look, which she rocked on screen and at numerous movie premieres.
Angelina Jolie’s favourite lipstick, which she wore by for her iconic 90s pout, has been re-released by MAC[/caption] The hue Folio gave Angelina the look she’s most famous for[/caption]And while the hue was discontinued years ago, it has now returned to shelves, much to the delight of fans of the once trendy look.
Make-up artist Tegan Rice, who actually used to work for MAC Cosmetics, took to TikTok to share a video of herself testing out the shade.
However, while the grey/beige shade worked well for Angelina thanks to her natural pink lip colour peeking through, Tegan was unsure if it would look as good on her cool lips.
“This was the shade that Angie wore through most of her iconic movies, Gone in 60 Seconds, Girl Interrupted, all of those red carpet releases – that really nude, gray nude lipstick,” she said.
“It is more of a gray tone brown, and it’s meant to knock out all the red in your lips.
“So it is gonna give you more of that ghoulish nude.”
The other thing that helped Angelina pull off the look was that she didn’t go “full on” with the lipstick, and instead gently tapped it in, rather than slicking it heavily on.
Tegan began by applying the MAC lip liner in Greige – which she used to overline her pout “quite a bit”.
She added that another “unique characterstic” of Angelina’s lips is the fact they “fold” slightly in the middle because they’re so full.
So Tegan added a tiny swipe of the lipliner in the middle to try and recreate the look.
She set the lipliner with some Studio Fix powder, before starting with the Folio, which she applied using her finger to give more of a “sheer” finish.
Once she’d done that, Tegan blotted it for a matte look.
She also said that if you wanted to make it even more matte, like Angelina traditionally wore, you could also apply even more Studio Fix over the top.
“What do you think? Are you excited about this?” Tegan concluded.
“Would you wear this?
“I know that I have been counting down the days until this arrived to my house, so I’m very excited!”
Best beauty dupes
Fabulous' Beauty Editor, Tara Ledden revealed the cheaper version of your favourite beauty products that you should have in your cupboard.
“A huge 55% of us would like to spend less on our beauty routines according to new research from E.l.f. Cosmetics, so it’s no wonder there’s millions of #dupe videos on Tiktok.
“While some dupes are easy to spot given their look-a-like packing, they’re often lacking when it comes to the contents.
“In fact, some of the best dupes look nothing like the luxury product they’re a dead-ringer for – and, trust me, they’re the ones you want.”
REAL: Benefit Hoola Matte Bronzer, £32.50 DUPE: Natural Collection Bronzer, £3.50 which is a saving of £29. The Natural Collection Bronzer comes in more shades, although it doesn’t have a mirror in the compact.
REAL: Milk Make-up Hydro-Grip Primer, £35 DUPE: E.l.f. Power Grip Primer, £10. These two share a similar green hue, as well as the same long-wearing, mattifying properties – although, E.l.f’s is so popular it’s just as hard to get hold of.
REAL: Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Lipstick, £28 DUPE: L’Oreal Paris Color Riche Satin Lipstick Beige A Nu, £8.99. The shades of these two lipsticks are virtually identical on the lips, although while Charlotte Tilbury’s is matte, the L’Oreal Paris Lipstick has a satin finish – which actually makes it more comfortable if you’re wearing all day.
REAL: Estée Lauder Double Wear Foundation, £40 DUPE: Collection Lasting Perfection Matte Foundation, £6.99. While they don’t look alike from the outside, the formula, consistency and staying power of both foundations is pretty similar – unfortunately, the Collection only comes in 20 shades vs Estee Lauder’s 60 options.
REAL: Glossier Boy Brow, £20 DUPE: Essence Make Me Brow Gel, £2.50. There’s a whole Reddit thread dedicated to this dupe, so you know it’s got to be good. They both have a waxy consistency and added fibres to make brows look fuller. I have to say, the shade range is far better with Boy Brow, but if you’re brunette, there’s plenty of Essence shade options to try.

“MAC has finally re-released Folio!!!” Tegan captioned her video.
“Folio lipstick + stone liner , wore ‘em through the late 90s in to early 2000s… potentially longer than I should have / way expired,” one person commented on the video.
” So sad when they were gone and IMMEDIATELY ordered today!”
“Omg the algorithm is so good!” another added.
“I just watched Girl, Interrupted and asked myself which lipstick she was wearing.
“Is it scary? Yes. Am I gonna buy the lipstick? Absolutely!”
“Gone in 60 Seconds was pivotal,” a third insisted.
The popularity of the re-released Folio has been so immense that it’s currently sold out on the MAC website.
However, you can choose to be notified if you want to find out when it’s next in stock.
And if you still can’t get your hands on it, there are some dupes people recommended in a post on Reddit.
“The shade ‘Naked Witch’ by Necromancy Cosmetica based out of Puerto Rico is a great dupe!” one wrote.
“I line my lips with NYX Moonwalk pencil, then blend it down by half,” another said.
“Then I apply MAC Creme de’ Nude and blot that.
“Then I gradually dab little bits of Moonwalk lipstick into the lip and blend until you hit the right shade!
“It comes out soooo good!”
As a third commented: “Jeffree Star Jeffrees Nudes.
“It’s almost exact. Right before it dries blot it down and top with a gloss.
“I’ve never found something more perfect, it’s insane!”
