Tottenham send scouts to watch Porto vs Sporting as striker nets winner
Tottenham’s scouts were spotted in attendance at a big semifinal clash in Lisbon this week and one of the club’s transfer targets set the game alight with his match-winning performance.
Spurs reaping rewards for Johan Lange’s scouting network
Among large sections of the Tottenham, fan base, the jury is very much out on Johan Lange, who has a mixed recruitment record since taking over as the club’s technical director.
However, Spurs are now reaping the rewards for his famed scouting network which has been credited with spotting Antonin Kinsky, who had a dream debut against Liverpool on Wednesday.
Further, two of his other signings, Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray, are now starting to come into their own and look set to have an exciting future at the club.
Tottenham’s scouts spotted in Portugal
According to the print edition of A Bola (as relayed by Sport Witness), scouts from the North London club were in attendance to watch Sporting Lisbon’s 1-0 win over Porto in the semifinal of the Taca da Liga.
The difference maker in the night was Viktor Gyokeres, who netted the game’s solitary goal on 56 minutes and delivered a Man of the Match display.
While A Bola do not provide any information on who Spurs were there to watch, Gyokeres seems like the most likely player, with the Lilywhites even being named as the front-runners to sign the prolific Swede a few months ago.
Other sources have suggested that Tottenham have even spoken to the representatives of the 26-year-old regarding a switch to N17.
Who else could Spurs have been watching?
There were also many other exciting players involved in the game as you would expect when the two top teams in Portugal go up against one another.
Both Sporting and Porto have been major talent factories over the past few decades, and Tottenham have been credited with an interest in other players from those two clubs.
This includes Sporting midfielder Morten Hjulmand, who Spurs reportedly watched closely during last summer’s Euros and Porto striker, Samu Omorodion, who Postecoglou’s men were keeping tabs on last year.
