UFC Vegas 101 bonuses: Mackenzie Dern extends submission record to earn extra $50K
Mackenzie Dern collected another arm and another bonus check with her latest win.
The UFC Vegas 101 main event ended in spectacular fashion for Dern as she avenged a 2019 loss to Amanda Ribas with an armbar submission in the closing seconds of the third round. With the finish, Dern extended her record for the most finishes in the UFC strawweight division with five.
Dern also collected a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus, the fourth of her career to go along with three Fight of the Night bonuses. This was also the second straight win for Dern, who is now 10-5 in the UFC.
Also collecting a Performance of the Night bonus on Saturday was middleweight kickboxer Cesar Almeida. The Brazilian slugger was in trouble against Abdul Razak Alhassan, but found a home for a counter punch that left Alhassan down and out for a frighteningly long time.
Fight of the Night went to Roman Kopylov and Chris Curtis for their thrilling middleweight duel that literally came down to the final second, when it was waved off after Kopylov rocked Curtis with a head kick. The timing of the stoppage was controversial according to several fighters, but at least Curtis can console himself with another bonus check. This is the second Fight of the Night award for “The Action Man.”
