VIDEO: Fire consumes home in Southeast Portland
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A fire destroyed a home in the Lents neighborhood of Southeast Portland during the early morning hours of Jan. 10.
Portland Fire & Rescue responded to a house fire reported south of Foster Road shortly before 4 a.m. Firefighters arriving on scene found the home engulfed in flames.
The fire caused a partial collapse of the home and was spreading to nearby trees when firefighters arrived. Downed electrical lines also made for a hazardous response Portland Fire & Rescue spokesperson Rick Graves told KOIN.
“There was a small collapse of the home in the front along with downed power lines that caused a bit of a safety issue but within 2 to 3 minutes of arrival,” Graves said. “All exposed structures were considered safe and crews made entry to reduce the flames from the interior of the remainder of the home that was standing.”
Video of the fire shows flames licking high into the air from the two-story home. Although firefighters faced towering flames, the five engines that responded to the fire were able to gain control of the blaze within minutes of arriving on scene.
“The images and video itself would lead most to believe we were here for hours, but in fact, within 30 minutes of this fire being tapped out into our stations, there were crews being released from the scene,” Graves said.
No one was injured in the fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
