Tottenham have Timo Werner concern about Randal Kolo Muani deal
Journalist Dean Jones reveals that Tottenham Hotspur are hesitating to agree to PSG’s terms regarding Randal Kolo Muani because the North London club have one big concern.
Tottenham are still pushing for Randal Kolo Muani
A number of different outlets indicated over the last few days that Tottenham were on the verge of reaching a full agreement with Kolo Muani and could conclude the transfer in a matter of days.
However, things seem to change in the past 24 hours when Juventus leapt to the front of the race. Muani himself has apparently even said ‘yes’ to the Old Lady, who are now in talks with PSG.
It has also been reported that talks between Spurs and PSG hit one major hurdle – the structure of the loan. While the Parisians reportedly want an obligation to buy added to the loan, Tottenham prefer an option to buy and want to make a decision in the summer depending on how the striker does over the next few months.
Why Tottenham are hesitating to agree on obligation to buy
Journalist Dean Jones has now explained that while Spurs do not view Kolo Muani as a short-term stopgap, they do not want to get burned by agreeing to a huge transfer outlay, especially given the Frenchman’s poor goal return over the last 12 months.
The journalist suggested that there are some fears at Hotspur Way that the 26-year-old could turn out to be another Timo Werner.
Jones said on Ranks FC podcast about Tottenham’s pursuit of Kolo Muani: “They’re not going to do an obligation because they don’t want to get burned on it.
“And there’s a chance he’s like Timo Werner or something. And I know Werner hasn’t got an obligation, but it’s just as well because they would be not very happy with that.
“You don’t really know that Kolo Muani is definitely going to fit in. But if there’s an option on it, I suppose they’re definitely open to the idea of signing him, whereas some of the other teams in for him, like Juventus, aren’t so much. For Kolo Muani himself, this is a really key stage of his career.”
What is the middle ground for Spurs and PSG?
One potential compromise between the two clubs in this situation is a conditional obligation to buy.
Tottenham might propose that the option become an obligation to buy if the former Eintracht Frankfurt man makes a certain number of appearances and scores a certain number of goals before the end of the season.
That way, Spurs are protected if the striker fails terribly while PSG also know they will get good value for their asset if he performs well.
