The little-known iPhone trick that can double your battery life
With the cold weather gripping the UK, many will see their phone batteries draining faster than usual.
Freezing temperatures are known to shorten the smartphone battery life and lower its performance – but other factors can also drain it faster.
However, iPhone owners can take a couple of simple steps to double the battery life.
An Apple expert and content creator Thiago Derminio revealed the hack that is just a few taps away on his bravetech.ai TikTok page.
Most of us tend to have dozens of apps running in the background without giving it a second thought, but adjusting these settings can stop the battery drain, Dailymail.com reports.
Thiago said: ‘The biggest villain for iPhones is their battery.
‘Everyone complains that it runs out too quickly, and this gets even worse over the years. These are tips that even Apple doesn’t want you to know about.’
Here are the three settings you can change to make things run smoother and you can find them all in your iPhone Settings.
Suggestions from Apple
The first setting you can toggle off only in a few clicks is Suggestions from Apple.
Open the Settings app, go down to ‘Siri & Search’ section and tap. In older iPhones, this may be found under ‘Siri.’
Scroll down to ‘Suggestions from Apple’ section which has four options – Allow Notifications, Show in App Library, Show When Sharing and Show Listening Suggestions.
These setting can be useful, but they also consume a chunk of the battery life, Thiago warned.
Each of the four options will have a toggle on and off button on the right side, so switch them all off to save some battery.
Reduce Motion
Next, go back to the main Settings menu and click on the blue ‘Accessibility’ icon and tap on ‘Motion.’
On top of the screen, you will find the ‘Reduce Motion’ setting which is designed to create a visual effect when you tilt the device on iPhones with iOS 18 operating system – not necessary for the phone function but it looks cool.
Toggle on the ‘Reduce Motion’ option to disable the parallax effect to give a bit more juice for the battery.
Background App Refresh
The final thing to do is the tick off the Background App Refresh.
So go back to the main Settings menu a gain and tap ‘General.’ Then scroll slightly down and click on ‘Background App Refresh.’
Tap on it and click again at ‘Off.’
This will stop apps from running in the background and refreshing automatically which can put a strain on the battery.
